Volunteer
#MEAction UK and #MEAction Scotland is powered by dedicated volunteers who bring their passion, skills, and lived experience to our campaigns. Many of our volunteers are people with ME, carers, or allies who understand firsthand the challenges our community faces.
Why Volunteering Matters
Our volunteers are the heart of MEAction UK. They contribute in countless ways:
- Campaign Support: Helping to develop and run our advocacy campaigns
- Research and Policy: Analysing policies, responding to consultations, and tracking developments
- Communications: Managing social media, writing content, and engaging with media
- Community Engagement: Supporting other people with ME and building our movement
- Fundraising: Helping to secure the resources we need for our work
- Administration: Supporting the day-to-day operations of the charity
Flexible and Accessible Volunteering
We understand that many of our volunteers have ME or other health conditions, caring responsibilities, or work commitments. That's why we've designed our volunteering to be:
- Flexible: Volunteer when and how much works for you
- Remote-friendly: Most volunteering can be done from home
- Accommodating: We work around your health needs and energy levels
- Supportive: Full training and ongoing support provided
- Meaningful: Every contribution, however small, makes a real difference
Current Volunteer Opportunities
We have opportunities for volunteers with different skills and interests:
- Campaign Volunteers: Help develop and implement our advocacy campaigns
- Research Volunteers: Support our policy work and evidence gathering
- Social Media Volunteers: Help manage our online presence and engagement
- Writing Volunteers: Create content for our website, newsletters, and campaigns
- Administrative Volunteers: Support our day-to-day operations
- Event Volunteers: Help with online and in-person events
Making a Difference Together
Our volunteers have been instrumental in our achievements:
- Contributing to government consultations and policy responses
- Raising awareness through social media campaigns
- Supporting the #MillionsMissing campaign and protests
- Helping to distribute educational materials to healthcare professionals
- Building our community and providing peer support
Every volunteer brings something unique to our movement, and together we are creating meaningful change for the ME community.
Volunteering in Scotland
#MEAction Scotland is piloting a Volunteer Network for people living in Scotland with ME, carers, family and friends. The aim of the Network is to ensure our campaigns in the Scottish Parliament and Scottish Health Boards reflects the needs of the whole ME community. The Volunteer Network is a way for our supporters to contribute to our campaign on an occasional basis when they feel able to do so. It also helps us to tap into the wealth of experience, skills and wisdom within our community.
We plan to roll the Network out across the rest of the UK soon, so please keep an eye on our social media for further details.

Recognition and Appreciation
We deeply value our volunteers and their contributions. While we can't name individuals here for privacy reasons, we want to acknowledge the incredible dedication of our volunteer team. Their work often goes unseen, but it is absolutely essential to everything we achieve.
To all our volunteers - past, present, and future - thank you for being part of this movement for change.
